Lynn Smith
Episode 12: We Call Ourselves Teachers
My guest for this week's conversation is Mrs. Lynn Smith. Mrs. Smith is a passionate educator who strives to create the types of environments and interventions needed to equip her students with the skills they need to succeed in life. This episode inspires parents to be intentional about the school readiness of their children, and also reinforces the need for supportive early intervention to deal with any reading challenges. Mrs. Smith reminds teachers that their knowledge and mindset drive the art of their craft and have a powerful impact on the minds of the students in their classrooms.

Guest Bio
Lynn Antonio was born on the beautiful island of Nassau in the Bahamas, the oldest of 3 children born to the union of Philip and Jean Antonio. When she was a girl, she loved to line her dolls up in the house and teach them all the lessons she had learned in school that day. Sometimes she would beg her brother and sister to play school with her even though they wanted to play other games. Her mother told her she would become a teacher one day.
She loved school and was always at the top of her class. As a matter of fact, she graduated with honors from high school when she was 15 and went to Jamaica to get her first degree from West Indies College (now Northern Caribbean University). Four years later she went to school in the United States and graduated with a Master’s degree in Education from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, and just recently, she graduated with an Educational Specialist degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Mrs. Smith is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Reading Education and is excited to take on this challenge at this stage of her life.
During the past 35 years, Mrs. Smith has travelled with her husband to Bermuda, the United States, the Cayman Islands, and the Turks & Caicos Islands where they have lived and worked, and now they are back home in The Bahamas to continue their service. She has taught at the primary and secondary levels and has been a principal at 3 of these schools. But her passion resonates most when she is in the classroom equipping children with skills that they need to success in life.
In 1981, Lynn Antonio married Michael Smith, the love of her life and together they have 3 adult children, one son-in-law, and three fabulous grandchildren. Mrs. Smith loves to read, sing, play the piano, cook, and has always been involved in her church. She is currently the Reading Specialist at Bahamas Academy, the high school that she graduated from in 1973.
