Episode 26: No Woman Left Behind
For this week's conversation I am joined by the CEO of Black Girls RUN!, Jay Ell Alexander. Black Girls RUN! began as a blog in 2009 where the co-founders journaled about their running experiences. As the popularity of the blog increased and an initial call out brought out a few hundred women, BGR moved from being a blog to becoming a community. BGR is now a 250, 000 -strong organization that tackles the growing obesity epidemic in the African-American community and encourages, motivates and provide resources to help black women practice a healthy lifestyle. Jay Ell shares with listeners the impact that BGR has had on her career and life, and the passion that she has for getting more Black women healthier and on the pavement.

Jay Ell Alexander is a public relations practitioner with a genuine commitment to giving back to the local community through her passion for communications, health and fitness. In 2018, she became the owner and CEO of Black Girls RUN!, acquiring the national running organization after six years of serving as the organization’s PR Director and National Manager. Black Girls RUN! is a 250,000-strong organization founded in 2009 to in an effort to tackle the growing obesity epidemic in the African-American community and encourage, motivate and provide resources—especially running-- to help black women practice a healthy lifestyle. She is also the owner of The Vaughn Strategy, a public relations strategy consulting firm. Alexander has a passion for running, completing her first marathon in 2014, and numerous half-marathons, 10Ks, and 5Ks since 2010.
