Guest Biography

Natacha Pennycooke is a Registered Psychotherapist, with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (CRPO), and owner/operator of Natacha Pennycooke Psychotherapy Services. In her over 10 years of practice as a psychotherapist, speaker and consultant, her work is guided from an anti-oppressive, healing focused, trauma informed and anti-Black racism lens, to unpack and challenge Euro-centric ideologies, systemic oppression and generational traumas that have been detrimental to racialized communities.
As a psychotherapist Natacha’s practice focuses on helping high achieving women and men struggling with self-doubt from trauma, anxiety and depression, to heal, thrive and live their best life.
As a speaker Natacha is sought after for her passionate speaking style and level of expertise on mental health, coping, trauma and healing related topics. These have included mental health education, African-centered psychology, systemic racism, decolonizing westernized therapeutic practice, racial trauma, anti-Black racism, intergenerational traumas, impact of the criminal justice system, domestic violence, violence against women, child welfare, parenting skills, COVID-19 global trauma, emotional avoidance, coping skills and workplace racism, of which she has presented at various community, academic and corporate events.
More recently, Natacha was involved in supporting the first annual Black Mental Health Day (Toronto; March 2 nd, 2020), confronting the mental health effects of racism against Black Torontonians. Additionally, Natacha and colleagues provided training on, “Theoretical Knowledge of African-Centered Perspectives & Practice Models”, and “Decolonizing Westernized Psychotherapeutic Practices to Increase Treatment Efficacy within Ethnic Communities: A Multidisciplinary Approach”, to support the need of anti-Black racism training workshops within the Toronto and Psychological communities, respectively. Natacha has presented at a number of international and national psychological conventions, including: the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi; USA - Houston, Oakland, Orlando); the Caribbean Regional Conference of Psychology (CRCP; Suriname, Haiti, Jamaica); the International Conference on Supervision and Psychotherapy (ICSP; Holland America Cruise Ship); and, the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA; Montreal, Halifax).
Natacha is a founding member and current vice-chair of the Association of Black Psychologists - Toronto Chapter (ABPsi-TO). She provides psychotherapy at Allied Psychological Services, acts as the Mental Health Advisor with Keep6ix (a community based organization who helps those impacted by the Criminal Justice System), and assists on the advisory board of Kujo’s Kids Zone (a YouTube show that provides educational Canadian content for preschool aged children).
