Episode 37: The Bounce Back
In this week's episode I am joined by Kimya Glasgow. Kimya is the founder, creative director and head designer of the Kimya Glasgow Brand. She is a true Caribbean native that was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, of both Vincentian & Trinidadian descent, and has lived in both the British Virgin Islands and Barbados. In our conversation she shares her journey into the fashion world and now into the world of fragrances. We discuss the impact of our life experiences on our work as well as the power of manifestation. Kimya reminds us of the importance of following our passions as well as building the type of resilience that gives us the 'bounce back' skill.

Kimya Glasgow – Founder, Creative Director, and Head Designer of the Kimya Glasgow Brand. A true Caribbean native, she was born in St Vincent and the Grenadines, grew up in Trinidad & Tobago, of both Vincentian & Trinidadian descent, and has lived in St Lucia, the British Virgin Islands and Barbados.
She holds an Associate Degree in Fashion Design from the Barbados Community College.
Kimya has shown collections in Miami Fashion Week, Dominicana Moda, Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago, Tobago Fashion Week, Barbados Fashion Week, St Kitts Fashion Weekend and has shown in St Lucia, Martinique, Toronto, Canada and New York to name a few and has shown repeatedly at Fashion Caribbean, St Vincent & the Grenadine’s premier fashion event.
She is currently a participant in the TEECA programme (Trade Enhancement in the Eastern Caribbean Region) a 3 year programme funded by the French government through the Martinique Chamber of Industry & Commerce, in conjunction with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and Caribbean Export, to promote trade between Martinique and the Eastern Caribbean. She is one of 3 participating designers in the programme of some 20 SMEs in the areas of Fashion, Music, Green Technology and Manufacturing.
It is significant that it is through this programme that Kimya has been able to launch her fragrance - Kimya Glasgow Vanilla Orchid in collaboration with Martiniquan perfumier Parfums des Iles.
The Kimya Glasgow brand is the first fashion house in the Caribbean to launch its own signature fragrance.
In September 2019, she was invited to do a solo show at the prestigious Trois Ilets Casino in Martinique.
She is a 2009 Caribbean Fashion Awards winner, with awards for achievement in Design from Karib Nation Inc of Washington DC and Shabeau Magazine, and received a 2014 Influential Woman Award.
She has also completed the Caribbean Export Development Agency - WE-Xport (Empowering Women through Export) - a 1 year programme. During this programme participants received business coaching, participated in workshops on access to Finance, Angel Investment pitch training, access to technical assistance grants, and support in attending trade events.
She has recently been a Fashion Mentor for the IFLE Caricom Cultural programme which is designed to develop greater regional unity, through opportunities for French-speaking and English-speaking creatives through improved communication, cultural cooperation and wider visibility within the region and beyond, to foster the professionalization of the cultural and creative sector.
She is a Mentee Alumni of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women Business Mentorship Programme, having completed 2 years of mentorship in the highly-respected global programme that offers a year of professional mentorship to women entrepreneurs around the world.
She was chosen to participate in The Caribbean Regional Entrepreneurial Asset Commercialization Hub (REACH). The objective of the project is to foster innovation and competitiveness in Caribbean SMEs through patents, industrial designs and utility models, copyrights in the creative industries, and trademarks and product branding of exporting companies.
She has been Creative Director of Image Modelling Agency and Show Producer, responsible for the creative vision behind SVG’s premier Fashion event - Fashion Caribbean.
She has previously sat on the Board of the SVG Chamber of Industry and Commerce and currently serves on the Board of the National Cultural Foundation. She has also spearheaded the formation of the recently-formed Fashion Association of St Vincent & the Grenadines and holds the role of Board Secretary.
